The College of the Marshall Islands is pushing for a meeting with the Minister of Education over the high number of high school students who fail to get into college.
Richard Bruce, the college's dean of student services, says they're taking action after results came through that showed fewer than ten percent, or 50 out of 529 students, met the requirements to attend college.
Mr Bruce says he's very concerned at students lack of basic English and maths.
"It's a combination of many factors. We have a very high number of unqualified teachers teaching in the primary and secondary and additionaly we have very limited funding provided for the ministry of education and basically we have very limited resources and a lot of unqualified teachers currently in our country."
Mr Bruce says he's spoken informally to the Education minister, Wilfred I. Kendall and is planning to meet with him over the next couple of weeks.
He says they're also holding meetings at secondary schools with Parent Teacher Associations to ensure people understand how important a good education is.
