Papua New Guinea's Foreign Affairs Minister has agreed in principle to back a proposal for a multilateral response to help bring security and stability to Solomon Islands.
The National reports Sir Rabbie Namaliu says he would prepare a brief on the proposal for the National Executive Council, or Cabinet, when full details were made available.
Sir Rabbie says provided that he is comfortable with the proposal, he would recommend to the NEC that PNG police or defence personnel join the effort.
He says the law and order situation, together with the economy and other problems in the Solomons, are matters of great concern for PNG.
Sir Rabbie says if PNG can contribute to restoring and maintining stability and security the government should seriously consider doing so.
