The cost to renovate the ninety-year old Governor's Mansion in American Samoa stands at 700-thousand US dollars.

The Historic Landmark remains unoccupied because it does not comply with minimum requirements of the building code.

John Enright of the American Samoa Historical Preservation Office says a grant application for 450-thousand US dollars is now pending with the US National Park Services.

He says he hopes the balance of the 700-thousand dollars comes from local funding.

A decision on the application is due in August.

Mr Enright says chances of receiving the funds is very good because of the Historical Landmark status of the building.
