The Rabaul branch of the Papua New Guinea Doctors Assocation is seeking advice for all members on whether to conduct a stop-work protest at the Nonga Base Hospital.

The move follows the termination of the senior specialist surgeon and director of medical services, Dr William Kurapa.

An Assocation representative, Dr Kauve Pomat says they are disgusted at the manner in which the board handled Dr Kurapa's case.

Dr Pomat says the hospital board needs to realise that you don't pick specialist medical officers off the street.

He says they are a valuable community and national asset, requiring many years of training and investment by the government.

Dr Pomat says the nation can ill-afford losing specialists at the whims of misinformed egos.

He says if the board doesn't urgently meet to rescind its decision, the Association members in Rabaul will take industrial action, pending advice from its national office.
