A senior Fiji public servant has warned that the country is as vulnerable to threats of international terrorism as any other in the world.
The Fiji Times says the warning has come from the secretary for foreign affairs, Ratu Isoa Gavidi, after talks with his Australian counterpart, Dr Ashton Culvert, in Suva.
Ratu Isoa says Fiji is a soft target for terrorists because of its large tourist industry.
He says he does not wish to be alarmist but nothing could be taken for granted.
Ratu Isoa said Australia had offered assistance in fighting terrorism and law enforcement.
Dr Calvert said these issues had received a lot of attention in bilateral talks and Australia wants to help with practical measures to counter terrorism threats.
