A Papua New Guinea district court judge is to press charges against police officers for assaulting him during the water crisis last week.

The Madang magistrate, Eric Mosoke, was allegedly assaulted at the Furan water treatment plant.

Mr Mosoke says he was beaten by two policemen in the presence of Madang Governor James Yali and the provincial police commander, Phillip Solala.

Mr Mosoke says he went to the plant with Mr Yali to lodge a complaint with Mr Solala about an earlier incident where his nephew was dragged out of a vehicle and beaten by police.

He says before he could explain Mr Solala shouted at him and two policemen began to beat him.
