The Governor of American Samoa, Tauese Sunia, was laid to rest over the weekend after family and state funerals.
Large crowds lined the streets as the funeral procession made its way to Mt Zion Congregational Church in Leone.
The service was attended by senior government figures from both American Samoa and Samoa, along with church leaders and relatives from home and abroad.
In a message of condolence, Samoa's Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sailele, said Governor Tauese Sunia was at the forefront of work by the governments of the two Samoas to create a good life for all Samoans.
