Fiji's tourism industry is forecasting troubled times ahead because of the Iraq conflict.

The chief executive of the Fiji Hotel Association, Olivia Pareti, says potential travellers are opting out of vacationing abroad because of the conflict.

The Fiji Visitors Bureau was earlier predicting a record year, with tourism earnings climbing higher than ever before.

But the bureau's marketing director, Josefa Tuamoto, says tourism around the world is sure to experience a decline as a result of the war.
