Traditional leaders in Vanuatu want police to intervene after ten people were injured during an ongoing dispute over land on Ambae island.
Authorities at Ambae's Lolowai hospital have confirmed that two seriously injured people have been transferred to Luganville hospital on Santo.
Sources on Ambae say tension remains high in the absence of police, after Nanago and Lolovoli people clashed during a meeting to resolve their differences.
Supporters of the Nanago people started the violence amid claims the Lolovoli members had violated their land boundary.
Penama provincial authorities have called for calm in the area.
