Police in Solomon Islands say they still have no suspect or motive in the assassination of a retired police commissioner, Sir Frederick Soaki, who was shot dead two weeks ago.

There had been rumours that a suspect was in custody but police denied this.

Solomon Islands police have been joined by two New Zealand officers to investigate the killing.

Our correspondent, Marie Louise O'Callaghan, says one person appears to be wanted for questioning but police have been unable to talks to him.

"It now appears that gentleman is still residing in his house, in a sort of self imposed house arrest, and none of his colleagues, he is a police officer, none of his colleagues are willing, or able, or wishing to arrest him."
