The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies says life hasn't returned to normal for those living in the northern and eastern parts of Fiji which were hit by Cyclone Ami last month.
One of its assessors, Andrew Macalister, says about 48 water supply sources have been out of action since the cyclone struck.
Mr Macalister says the tasks of restoring the water supplies, rehabilitating schools and providing shelter will remain priorities throughout the year.
He says there are also lessons to be learnt from Ami.
"People need to be prepared for this sort of eventuality by having relief supplies available and stored in places like Vanua Levu. The reality is you're never going to get a lot of aid delivered from outside in the short term and it did emphasize that need for the government and for agencies to continue to focus on building the community resilience."
