Samoa power company boss suspended

4:50 pm on 31 January 2003

It has been reported in the Samoan press that the general manager of the electricity supplier, Toluono Feti, was suspended three weeks ago for making questionable decisions.

The minister responsible for Electric Power Corporation, Faumuina Liuga, is quoted in the Samoa Observer as saying he wants to make it clear that Toluono is under suspicion but that the allegations have not been confirmed yet.

Reports also say senior officers at the EPC are being investigated for fraudulent use of corporation resources.

Faumuina has not confirmed the reports although he says if the investigations turn up any corrupt practices by other corporation officers then they will be dealt with.

Faumuina says Tuluono needed to be suspended because he is under suspicion and they could not give him access to important documents that are essential to the investigation.
