An international women's organisation is to campaign for Fiji's justice Nazhat Shameem to be put on the International Criminal Court in opposition to the government's official nominee, the former chief justice Sir Timoci Tuivaga.
Fiji TV reports that the action is being undertaken by the Women's Caucus for Gender Justice.
Its spokesperson, Wahida Nainar, says the caucus has identified three countries which are prepared to nominate Justice Shameem for the ICC.
She says it only remains for Justice Shameem to indicate her acceptance before the process of nominatin by other countries can begin.
Ms Nainar says women's NGOs are also very concerned about Sir Timoci Tuivaga's role in the recent coup and question his ability to do justice to the principles the International Criminal Court stands for.
The attorney-general, Qoriniasi Bale, says the government has made its decision and the allegations against Sir Timoci have not been proven.
