11:23 am on 15 October 2002

Fiji's prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, says the weekend terrorist attack on Bali shows that no part of the world is immune to such crimes, not even the small nations of the Pacific.

Mr Qarase, who is in Canberra for trade talks, has joined the worldwide condemnation of the attack which has killed about 200 and left hundreds more injured.

He says it was a cowardly act which shows that even small regional countries are vulnerable.

Mr Qarase says it's time to take action now to ensure the security of Fiji and the rest of the region.

He says he will discuss the Pacific's anti-terrorist needs with Australian leaders.
