Chinese complain about racist abuse in American Samoans

6:29 pm on 3 October 2002

Members of the American Samoa Chinese Association in American Samoa are outraged with the level of abuse aimed towards them by local people.

A spokesperson from the association is reported by local media as saying that Chinese residents are bothered, harrassed and sometimes robbed.

He says that they have declined to report the abusive incidents for fear of reprisals, but say they intend to notify the authorities over any further attacks.

The comments come after a Chinese fishing boat captain lodged a complaint with police about youths throwing eggs at him.
