Niue's controversial budget is likely to be passed today after being presented to the island's legislative assembly for the second time within a month.

Finance Minister, Toke Talagi's second budget dropped cuts to child allowances, a twenty per cent cut in wages for public servants and means testing for all pensions.

However there have been curbs on government spending and no provision for capital expenditure.

Premier, Young Vivian, told the Assembly government spending will be carefully monitored and with a new direct air link to New Zealand the island's economy will gain strenth through tourism development.
