The Solomon Islands government believes it may have been paying the wages of up to seven hundred non existent public servants. '

The Prime Minister's office has launched an investigation.

A committee is now combing payrolls and checking with schools and offices to find out if there are any ghost wage earners.

It is part of the Government's effort to cut the public payroll, which it indicated in the Budget, would be reduced by 40 percent.
