Fiji's parliament has been told that indigenous Fijians fear that Indo-Fijian leaders always aspire to control the country's political system.
The statement has ben made by a government MP from the pro-coup Conservative Alliance Matanitu Vanua Party, Ratu Rakuita Vakalalabure.
Ratu Rakuita said he hoped not to make such a statement, but he believes the fear remains true and alive among the indigenous people.
He says goodwill and acceptance are an important principle in democracy.
But he says the country will lose if the Labour Party believes it is its constitutional right to force itself into cabinet because it challenges the very psyche of the Fijian people.
