Lawyers defending 15 Fiji army soldiers charged with the November 2000 mutiny are threatening to withdraw from the court martial.
Kelemedi Bulewa and Rabo Matebalavu claim that the evidence of a prosecution witness, Private Silivatore Raikadroka, is inadmissable.
They say this is because in his statement the witness says the leader of the mutineers, Captain Shane Stevens, had confessed to his guilt while he was recovering from injuries in hospital.
The lawyers claim the statement was taken involuntarily when Captain Stevens was in pain and should not be used in court.
Mr Bulewa has told the court martial that if their submissions are not considered, they will be gravely injured in their defence and may not continue with the trial.
Prosecutors have labelled the lawyers' actions blackmail and an attempt to discontinue court martial proceedings.
The court martial has now been adjourned to May 13th for a ruling.
