American Samoa's Chief Justice, Michael Kruse, has ordered the Department of Public Safety and the Department of Education to provide a detailed plan for the educational needs and services of detained juveniles.
The action is a response to complaints by the Public Defenders Office that not enough is being done for these young people.
Chief Justice Kruse says he is unhappy with answers provided by assistant police commissioner, Mike Fuiava, and deputy director of education, Mekiafa Vaifanua, at a recent hearing.
He has ordered the education director, Dr Sili Sataua and police commissioner, Tuiteleleapaga Pesata Fue to appear at a hearing on May the 13th or face contempt of court charges.
