Winners: A night out with the APO - with gratitude

From Upbeat, 7:00 am on 7 July 2020

We asked RNZ Concert listeners to tell us about a person you have appreciated in recent times, and why.

Everyone went into a draw for the gift of beautiful live music - a double ticket to Welcome Back with Houstoun, the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra's return to the stage in triumphant mood with a star pianist and a world première.

We drew five names on Tuesday 7 July during Daybreak with Cynthia Morahan. Here are the winners:

Frazer,  Auckland

Is grateful for: "My lovely Mum! Who not only encouraged me to return from the UK in mid-March, but has put me up at home rent free ever since. She has made the blessing of being in NZ even more so by her kindness (and baking)!"

Brooke, Auckland

Is grateful for: "My boyfriend Scott. His words of support kept me level headed while job hunting during lockdown and then when I was starting a new job and he recently spent all weekend helping me move and clean my house for the end of lease (which was a big job!)."

Carlos, Ōamaru

Is grateful for: "My wife, who will be turning 30 this month. "She has been alongside me throughout the pandemic while our travel plans were cancelled and we had to retreat back to Oamaru. We will travel to Auckland this Sunday and around the North Island for a month, partly to celebrate Thalía's  birthday by fulfilling her life-long dream to visit Hobbiton in Matamata."

Margaret, Whangarei

Is grateful for: "Sam Winterton, Sistema Whangarei programme director. Her brain is always working overtime assist the students have access to music either via zoom hook ups or arranging guest tutors.  My daughters spirits are always lifted by things Sam does and she is one awesome person who is passionate about sharing her musical aspirations for students and their families."

Garth, Whakatane

Is grateful for: RNZ Concert, as I was lucky enough to have a campground take me because I was a kiwi living in my new motorhome. You kept my spirits up and eventually I made it back to my father’s home at level2. I had the road mostly to myself all the way RNZ Concert, thank you.
