Performed by Melanie Lançon, Bede Hanley and Stephen De Pledge at the CMNZ concert, 'Fantasy & Romance', Auckland Concert Chamber, 3 August 2021.
Madeleine Dring was British, born 1923 and died quite young in 1977. She was taught at the Royal College of Music by Herbert Howells and Vaughan Williams although she shows no signs of their influence. She was more inclined to the likes of Poulenc and the jazzy worlds of Gershwin and Porter. Small chamber works and songs were her thing, but she also wrote a lot for theatre and television.
This trio is perhaps her most popular piece.
