Performed by the Brodsky Quartet at their 'Fugues' concert for CMNZ, Auckland Concert Chamber, 13 May 2019.
Bach is the acknowledged supreme master of the fugue – he took this form in which different voices or instruments follow one another at stating a short musical subject to create staggeringly complex structures.
And he reached the apotheosis of his achievement in the collection The Art of Fugue – 14 pieces written just prior to his death. In fact the last of them is incomplete.
Recorded by RNZ in the Concert Chamber of Auckland Town Hall, 13 May 2019
