Francesco Geminiani's Concerto Grosso in D minor is a set of variations on the traditional 'La Folia' theme.
It was first published in 1729 as the last of 12 Concerti Grossi inspired by his teacher Arcangelo Corelli's Violin Sonatas. In Geminiani’s setting Corelli’s virtuoso solo violin part is mostly unchanged, but a second violin part is cleverly added and the whole work is shaped by the contrast between tutti and solo.
Soloists: Aisslinn Nosky & Anna van der Zee (violins), Victoria Jaenecke (viola), Ken Ichinose (cello), NZ Symphony Orchestra/Aisslinn Nosky.
