Current RFPs

Please find below a Request for Proposals and Cover Sheet (which must accompany all pitch submissions in .docx format) outlining current opportunities for Independent Producers to create content for RNZ.

This RFP replaces the RFP with the same name issued on the 15th February 2021.

This RFP has been issued in response to the Te Māngai Paho Music Breakthrough Projects RFP 2020/21 - Round 4.

RNZ is seeking a producer to partner with in an application for TMP funding. Producers are asked to submit a proposal for high quality audio and visual content featuring waiata reo Māori, with the aim of:

  • Embedding waiata reo Māori in the daily lives of everyday New Zealanders; or

  • Converting New Zealanders with zero to passive reo Māori into waiata reo Māori benefactors.

The content should be focused on live musical performance, but additional content is encouraged, and should complement the performances. Audio content can be waiata-only and should be tailored for radio broadcast. Video content should be tailored for social media.

RNZ will offer primary platform support to one proposal, bringing extensive audience reach and sound contract administration capability to the partnership. RNZ may also contribute budget and/or production support.

RNZ strongly encourages pitches to align with Te Māngai Paho guidelines for this RFP and urges all producers to be very familiar with these requirements before submitting an initial pitch to RNZ.

Producers will need a good knowledge and understanding of music licensing, as RNZ will be seeking non-exclusive, worldwide music rights.

Collaboration with other distribution platforms is encouraged, including Te Whakaruruhau o Ngā Reo Irirangi Māori first and foremost. Initial conversations indicate support from a number of iwi stations.

For clarity, the successful pitch is not guaranteed an RNZ-commissioned project, but will be offered an opportunity to partner with RNZ in a funding application. TMP has not made a commitment to fund RNZ. Any application will be assessed alongside others submitted to the round.

Please submit only one pitch (plus cover sheet) per production company via email, using the following Subject line: “PITCH: TMP_BRK RFP - NAME OF PITCH - PRODUCTION COMPANY NAME”
