Native Americans who run and don’t wear shoes is what inspired McDougall. In his book “Born to Run” he looked at alternative running.Studying how the Tarahumara Indians of Mexico’s Copper Canyon could run hundreds of miles without stopping. His career as a foreign correspondent brought his attention to World War Two resistance fighters and he explores their stories in his book Natural Born Heroes.  He sits down to have a chat about it all to journalist Rachel Smalley.
