Police, coastguard continue search for missing kayaker on Lake Rotorua

The search continues for a kayaker reported overdue on Lake Rotorua yesterday afternoon.

The man, who was in a black and yellow inflatable kayak and wearing a dark green jacket, is believed to have been in the Mokoia Island area.

Two coastguard vessels searched the lake on Monday while police SAR and LandSAR searched the island.

"Unfortunately no sign of the kayaker was found yesterday, and the search has resumed this morning," police said in a statement.

PoliceSAR and LandSAR returned to Mokoia Island on Tuesday to continue searching for the missing man.

Further Coastguard searches of the shoreline are planned.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen this man or his kayak, likely at the northern end of the lake, yesterday afternoon."
