The cost of one of the government's Roads of National Significance is rising, and could be nearly double the one billion dollar estimate of two years ago.
The Minister of Transport Simon Bridges has confirmed the estimate for the planned Warkworth to Wellsford motorway north of Auckland, is now between $1.4 billion and $1.9 billion.
In response to written questions from the Green Party Mr Bridges put the benefit cost ratio at 25 cents for every dollar spent.
The Green Party's transport spokesperson JulieAnne Genter says the project should be scrapped and replaced with more limited safety improvements, as the latest figures probably still flatter it.
