Corin Dann to be RNZ’s next Business Editor
Released at 10:15 am on 10 October 2025
After six years of early starts and putting his skills as a highly respected interviewer to daily use, journalist and presenter Corin Dann is to return to one of his first loves in journalism: Business reporting.
He will take on the role of RNZ Business Editor in 2026.
Tariffs, shifting global economic trends, changes at the Reserve Bank and the state of the New Zealand economy have made business and economics key areas of coverage for RNZ. Dann will focus on demonstrating the importance of business and economic stories as well bringing a multi-media approach, transitioning to his new role during election year when economics and the cost of living are foremost in the minds of kiwis.
Dann began his career in journalism at RNZ, firstly in sport reporting before moving to be Economics Correspondent in 2007. He then hosted and produced TVNZ show NZI Business before becoming the network’s Breakfast host. Stints as Political Editor and host of Q&A followed, before Dann returned to RNZ in 2019 to host Morning Report.
During his time on Morning Report, Dann covered the aftermath of the Christchurch Mosque shootings, the White Island volcano eruption, the COVID-19 pandemic response and Cyclone Gabrielle. Dann also travelled to both Australia and the United States to cover significant elections, including the build-up to last year’s election of President Donald Trump.
Dann said leaving Morning Report was a difficult decision, but the opportunity to lead RNZ’s Business team, with current Business Editor Gyles Beckford moving to be the part-time Economics Correspondent, was too good to pass up.
“A substantial amount of my career has been spent reporting on our economy and it feels like a very important time to get this right with the pressure that everyone is feeling, businesses and employees alike. My aim for this role is to make business stories accessible and relatable. People have busy lives, and they really need to know how the news will impact them.
“I’ve always said that Morning Report is the best broadcasting gig in the country and I’ve felt privileged to have this role, but you do have to seize opportunities when they arise and business reporting is something I’m passionate about. I’ll really miss the entire Morning Report team but especially my co-presenter Ingrid Hipkiss. Ingrid brings such warmth and humour to the role that she’s been a joy to work with since day one.”
RNZ Chief News Officer Mark Stevens paid tribute to Dann’s skill as an interviewer on Morning Report and said RNZ was extremely fortunate to be retaining a journalist of Dann’s calibre.
“Corin’s maturity in broadcasting has really shone through in Morning Report. But, at the same time, he’s also embraced modern multimedia storytelling, filming content for social media, developing podcasts and delivering video series. It's that intellect and audience focus that he’ll bring to the critical role of Business Editor.”
Stevens said it was important Morning Report had a good handover between presenters and he was grateful for Dann’s commitment to the show while a replacement was found.
“The recent adjustments we’ve made to Morning Report, using our talented journalists and introducing a more conversational tone, is resonating with our audiences.
“Corin will continue to be a key part of that during the transition and into the future. RNZ audiences won’t be hearing any less of Corin Dann.”
Recruitment for a new presenter for Morning Report will start immediately.
