Fijiana's coach Saiasi Fuli is happy with the performance of his players after their first tournament together during the Fun Flavour Super 7s Series at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

After Covid-19 hampered the side's availability for the Spanish leg of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, Fuli said he was happy that they had maintained their shape.

"We outlined a priority list after Dubai, unfortunately we didn't take part in Spain, and we looked into other areas."

Fuli said key to finding their shape was using the same squad for the Spanish leg and during the Fun Flavour Super Sevens Series first leg in Sigatoka two weeks ago.

"We had other areas of improvement to work on, so we used the same combination for team Mount Masada using the local 7s series," he said.

Meanwhile, Fuli added he was impressed with the influx of young women players taking up the sport, but said more work needed to be done at the ground level.

"Something that needs serious attention from clubs is the core skills.

"But we take into account that they (new players) are just playing for their clubs and it is a good step for them to come into a system from where we can develop and engage them and see how best they are ready for international exposure," Fuli said.

The Fijiana, playing as Mount Masada, will take part at this weekend's second leg of the Super Sevens series in Nadi.
